Thinking about Net Neutrality

I think the technology infrastructure is as important to our nation as our network of interstates and highways. The federal government subsidies the construction and upkeep of our highways, I think they should consider kicking in to the telecomm companies to help support the technology upkeep (if a review warrants this support. I am not convinced the telecomm providers really need govt support but an independent evaluation should be conducted to determine need.) I think net neutrality is too important to leave up to the goodwill of the telecomm companies. (Especially since they have shown they manipulate data rates when allowed to do so. See Comcast Lawsuit. The telecomm companies need to be regulated - they have too much to gain by improving their service and messing with their competitor's service to be trusted (fox and the hen house.)

I've always wanted to build my own web server. I guess that officially makes me a web geek.

I stumbled across this article with instructions to building a web server. I have an old computer in the basement that the kids no longer use and it will soon be my new web server. Instructions and article here: http://www.brettglass.com/ttr19980206c.html

So I am looking for a new phone...

I am in need of a new cell phone. I bought an itouch in December and really like it. I am now looking into replacing it with an iphone now that the data plans may be more affordable: http://news.cnet.com/8301-30686_3-20006780-266.html?tag=rtcol;inTheNewsNow. I already have at&t so I won't have to switch providers. I just dread calling at&t and talking to customer service about my options. Bad, bad, bad customer service - maybe the "sales" staff will be more competent.

First Hummingbird

I saw my first hummingbird of the season this past weekend. Wow. They look like little fairies.
